Learn about your options for other fertility treatments
In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is often the first treatment that comes to mind when people think about fertility treatments. Thinking about fertility medications, egg retrieval, fertilization and embryo transfer can be overwhelming. While IVF is the best treatment option for some hopeful parents it is not the only option. In fact, our San Antonio fertility doctors offer a variety of other fertility treatments to meet your needs, budget and family-building goals. Only 20-25% of our patients actually pursue IVF; the others typically conceive with less expensive and less involved treatment.
Moving beyond IVF to other fertility treatments
It might seem easier to recommend IVF to all hopeful parents, but easier isn’t always best. IVF is a very effective treatment option, but each person has unique fertility issues, and they should receive treatment that is customized for them. In some cases, a patient may only need fertility medications and timed intercourse in order to welcome their bundle of joy. In other situations, a person may require a more-advanced treatment, such as IVF.
Understanding the other fertility treatments that our San Antonio fertility doctors offer can help you as you begin to navigate your fertility journey.
- Ovulation induction involves taking fertility medications to cause your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. You can take this medication in conjunction with timed intercourse, intrauterine insemination (IUI) or even IVF.
- Intrauterine insemination is also known as artificial insemination. During this procedure, your fertility specialist will gently inject sperm from your partner or your selected donor into your uterus around the time of ovulation.
- Fertility surgery is sometimes all that is required to help you conceive if you are struggling to have a baby due to pelvic adhesions, endometriosis, uterine fibroids or a uterine septum.
Our San Antonio fertility doctors also offer third party reproduction (donor sperm, donor eggs, donor embryos, and gestational carriers) for single women, LGBT patients and other hopeful parents who need to use donor services. You can also use fertility preservation services to help you delay parenthood until you are ready.
