We recommend that both partners attend the female infertility evaluation because infertility can affect one or both partners.
We recommend that you make an appointment after unsuccessfully trying to conceive for 6 to 12 months, or sooner if you have irregular periods or if you already know there is some infertility issue. Your initial meeting will generally last around 30 to 45 minutes.
Our team will ask questions about medical problems, previous surgeries, pregnancies, & your menstrual cycle. The details about your history can provide clues to help us figure out why you are not conceiving easily.
For example, the length of time between your periods can tell us whether or not you ovulate.
Other predictors of ovulation include basal body temperature charts, ovulation predictor kits, & ultrasound. The length of the luteal phase (from ovulation to start of your period) may tell us if you have a progesterone deficiency. The luteal phase should be at least 12 days long. Many couples struggle to understand what they have read or been told about getting pregnant. Questions you have about these things will be answered.
Our physicians will give you pregnancy rates for various fertility treatments based on your age and history, and discuss the basics of fertility treatments & how those treatments may help you conceive. Dr. Munch and Dr. Hudson will also discuss any lifestyles changes you should make like recommendations on exercise, diet, & discontinuation of tobacco and caffeine. Then diagnostic tests will be ordered such as an HSG, semen analysis & blood work.
