We’re raising awareness during Fibroid Awareness Month
Did you know that July is Fibroid Awareness Month? Texas Fertility Center is working to raise awareness about this common but often-misunderstood condition. That’s why our San Antonio fertility center is joining The White Dress Project in sharing uterine fibroid facts this month. The goal is to help women with fibroids learn more about this condition and feel empowered.
Check out five uterine fibroid facts
In honor of Fibroid Awareness Month, our San Antonio fertility center is sharing five facts to fight the misinformation surrounding this condition.
Fibroids are more common than you may think. It turns out that 171 million women around the world have fibroids. Not only that, 90% of Black women and 70% of White women will have fibroids by age 50.
Fibroids are not cancerous growths. Thankfully, uterine fibroids are typically benign, which means they aren’t cancerous. However, they can still cause pain and other symptoms that can interfere with your quality of life.
Women who have fibroids can often still conceive. Uterine fibroids can sometimes cause infertility, but not always. If you’re struggling to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term due to fibroids, our San Antonio fertility center offers fertility treatments that can help.
A hysterectomy is not the only way to treat fibroids. In the past, a hysterectomy may have been the only option for women with fibroids. However, minimally invasive surgery has come a long way, so there are uterus-sparing treatments available.
Fibroids don’t always cause pelvic pain and heavy bleeding. While uterine fibroids can cause these and other symptoms like constipation and bladder dysfunction, they don’t always. As a result, the only definitive way to diagnose fibroids is with a comprehensive exam.
