Your eggs might not wait until the time is right.
As you may have heard, an announcement came from both Apple and Facebook that they will be covering the cost of egg freezing through their employee health insurance. Certainly, if you have a new cancer diagnosis or premature ovarian failure diagnosis, Texas Fertility Center recommends fertility preservation as soon as possible. However, even without these diagnoses, TFC performs elective egg freezing IVF cycles to give women flexibility and peace of mind.
Flexibility and Peace of Mind
Fertility specialist, Dr. Erika Munch recommends that women pay attention to the biological clock. Women like to think that if they take care of themselves and stay healthy, that pregnancy will come easily after a career is established, the right person is in your live, and you are financially stable. Those things are all important, but unfortunately, optimal fertility is in a woman’s 20’s and early 30’s. Many of us are waiting until our late 30’s to start a family. The fact is, the number of eggs in the ovaries and egg quality declines with age regardless of health status.
Egg Freezing in Your 30’s?
If you are in your 30’s and have no immediate plans to conceive, but would like children in the future, you should consider ovarian reserve testing. This testing allows Dr. Munch to give you an idea of your fertility status. We can estimate how many eggs are left in the ovaries and if you should consider measures to preserve your fertility. Tests such as FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and AMH (antimullerian hormone) can give us insight into how much time you have in your reproductive window. If you find that you are starting to run out of eggs, elective egg freezing is something to consider.
Knowledge is powerful
Many women conceive without difficulty in their later reproductive years. If you decide that you’d like know your fertility status and your options, contact TFC for AMH testing. Empowering you with information to make the best decision for you is our goal.
